Feedback is one of medicine's most powerful teaching tools — and one of its most neglected.

Clinical faculty are experts in medicine. They are rarely trained in how to give structured, developmentally meaningful feedback under time pressure.

No time in the clinical day

Attendings precept between patients, procedures, and administrative demands. Sitting down to write a paragraph-long narrative is simply not realistic in most settings.

📋

Milestone frameworks are complex

ACGME competencies span six domains and dozens of sub-competencies. Mapping an observed behavior to the right milestone requires cognitive load most faculty haven't been trained to manage efficiently.

🔁

Feedback is vague and repetitive

"Great job today" dominates the record. Trainees receive little actionable guidance, and programs struggle to demonstrate meaningful assessment cultures to accreditors.

The result? A missed opportunity — every rotation.

When feedback quality suffers, trainees don't grow as intentionally as they could. Programs lose visibility into development. Faculty miss the chance to do what they came here to do: teach.

Faculty want to give good feedback. They just need a tool that meets them where they are — not one that asks them to become assessment experts on top of everything else.

— Founding principle, Preceptr

Built for the clinical educator's reality.

Every feature in Preceptr exists to reduce friction between what you observed and what gets documented.

🧠

AI-Assisted Narrative Generation

Select competencies, describe what you observed, and let Preceptr compose a structured, professional narrative. Edit freely — the words are yours.

🎯

ACGME Milestones Auto-Mapped

Milestones are automatically mapped based on your selections. No memorizing frameworks — just observe, select, and describe.

🖼

Learner Phenotype Image Library

A curated visual library of clinical archetypes helps faculty identify and articulate patterns in trainee behavior — making it faster to name what you observed and why it matters.

📓

Personal Notebook & Archive

Build a running archive of observations about any trainee, then synthesize them into formative or summative feedback at any time. Institutions do not own your content.

🔒

Redaction Module

Before any text reaches the AI, Preceptr's redaction module screens for PII and PHI — ensuring no identifying information passes through the synthesis step.

📊

Faculty Usage Dashboard

Track your own patterns over time — competency coverage, feedback volume, tone trends. Become a more intentional educator.

Try it yourself — a guided walkthrough.

This is a live demo of the Preceptr workflow. Follow each step to experience exactly how faculty use it at the point of care.

Designed for every educator in the clinical teaching hierarchy.

For the DIO and Dean

Accreditation depends on evidence of a meaningful assessment culture. Preceptr helps you build one — by making it structurally easier for faculty to produce high-quality, milestone-aligned feedback at scale.

  • Demonstrate assessment culture rigor to ACGME site reviewers
  • Deploy across multiple programs with institutional licensing
  • Standardize feedback language and competency coverage institution-wide

For the Program Director and Clerkship Director

You set the assessment culture for your program. Preceptr gives your faculty a tool that operationalizes the frameworks you've spent years building — at the bedside, in the time they actually have.

  • Equip your teaching faculty with a structured feedback tool
  • Ensure consistent competency coverage across your teaching roster
  • Support faculty development in assessment and milestone documentation

For the clinical educator

You observed something important today. Preceptr helps you capture that observation in the moment and turn it into feedback worth reading — in under three minutes.

  • Compose milestone-aligned feedback between patients in under three minutes
  • Build a personal archive of observations to inform summative evaluations
  • Document your teaching activity for promotion and professional portfolios

For the resident and student

Better faculty tools mean better feedback for you. When your attending has a structured, fast way to document what they observed, you receive feedback that is specific, milestone-referenced, and actually useful for your growth.

  • Receive feedback tied to specific ACGME competency domains
  • Understand exactly what behaviors to develop or sustain
  • Build a longitudinal record of your development across rotations

No. Preceptr operates on a personal notebook model. It is not a record system, and your institution does not have a claim to the content you create. Faculty own their entries. Preceptr is a composing aid — what you do with the finished feedback is entirely up to you.
Preceptr does not require resident names. Before any text reaches the AI, Preceptr's redaction module screens for PII and PHI — ensuring no identifying information passes through the synthesis step.
Preceptr covers all six core ACGME competency domains: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, and Systems-Based Practice — along with their associated sub-competencies and milestone anchors.
Preceptr uses a large language model to assist in composing feedback narratives based on your inputs. Your data is not used to train AI models. Sessions are processed transiently and not retained beyond what is necessary to deliver the response.
Preceptr offers individual, group, and institutional plans. A free tier is available. Full pricing details are coming soon — contact us for current access options.

Built by a clinician who lived the problem.

Dr. Rajiv John is a practicing internal medicine physician in southeast Michigan and the founder of Growthscape Inc. He has spent over seven years as a clinical faculty member, three years as an Associate Program Director, and one year as Program Director — giving him a firsthand view of how feedback culture shapes trainee development.

His academic work focuses on resident feedback and assessment, resident engagement in patient safety, and quality improvement curriculum development. He has presented on resident assessment at the national level and continues to work on refining the medical trainee feedback process.

Preceptr grew directly from that experience — a tool built not by technologists imagining what clinicians need, but by an educator who needed it himself.
